My 12-year-old nephew made a deal with himself. He has to read at least 10 books this summer. If he can do it, I can, too. I've read three books this week. I'm going to post a short review every few days, if possible. I'm not the world's most eloquent reviewer, but if I love a book, I'll let you know.
Tell me what you're reading, too. Have you recently read a book that kept you up all night? That gave you amazing dreams or nightmares? That made you think in a new way? If so, I want to know about it.
I just finished a brilliant, disturbing, engrossing young adult novel -- UNWIND by Neal Shusterman. Not to be missed. Shusterman paints a frightening picture of a society in which parents can sign orders to have their unwanted teens "unwound," or salvaged for their body parts. Three runaways make a harrowing cross country journey to escape their sinister fate. If they can survive to age eighteen, they'll be free. Shusterman knows how to construct cinematic, emotional scenes, and the plot takes many surprising, unexpected turns. I highly recommend this book!
I'm going to read Neal Shusterman's other books now. I can't wait!

Hi, first time commenter here :)
I haven't had time to do much exploratory reading so I've just been ticking off the lists of must-reads my friends made for me this summer, so I've just finished The Time Traveler's Wife & Twilight. The first one I thought was fantastic all around. Not so much the writing of Twilight, but I do enjoy the story and am continuing on with the series. :)
Ameya,
Thanks for your comment! I peeked at your fun blog. Are you still writing a teen fantasy novel?
I haven't read The Time Traveler's Wife, but I've heard it's great. I enjoyed Twilight. The story is set in Forks, WA, about three hours' drive from my house.
Tidbit: Stephenie Meyer and I share the same literary agent.
I'll post another book review later, after I write my pages for the day!
Thanks for visiting my blog! I appreciate it. :)
Yes, I'm still working on the teen fantasy novel. I'm very excited about it, I just can't write quickly enough!
That's really neat about Twilight/ your literary agent. It never ceases to amaze me how small the world can be sometimes.
Looking forward to your next post!
I'm glad you're still working on the novel. When do you expect to finish? Do you have an agent?
I don't have an agent yet. I'm hoping to be done with my first draft in the late fall, but with school it might end up a bit later. Definitely planning for before the year's end, though. :)
